Supreme Gecko ? What is that?
For those of you who have noticed the ad on my home page for Supreme Gecko and wondered what is that? Supreme Gecko is a business my husband has opened that involves breeding, raising and selling small geckos. He also sells supplies for the animals. This business started out as a hobby several years ago(there is a pattern here for those who know him). It started out with just a couple of geckos and now has grown into hundreds of the critters. After the animals are a certain size and age he sells them at reptile shows and on line through his website. Yes, we ship geckos all around the country. It has been a learning experience for me as I was NOT into them at all when he first got them. It has taken me several years to get used to them, however, there are only a couple types that I am totally comfortable with. Let me clarify, it’s not that they are mean or dangerous some of them just move too quick for me.
I now help with feeding and cleaning of the animals on a regular basis. I am the “shipper” for animals or supplies and have fun at our local post office everytime I go in with a shipment (the guy at the counter always asks what its name is).
Below are pictures of egg collection during the breeding season. We collect hundreds of eggs from the leopard and crested geckos each breeding season.
These are leopard gecko eggs. She lays them in her “hide box” which has vermiculite in it for moisture and hiding the eggs. The egg is the elongated white spot in the picture. The second picture shows the eggs in a cup with perilite (which is moist) for cushioning the eggs until they hatch. These are them put into an incubator until they hatch. On the top of the container we label the parent and the date we pulled the eggs.
My husband, Wally, is collecting eggs from the crested geckos tonight. They lay them in a “hide box” that has dirt in it. He is putting them in a craft box container(one egg in each compartment) that has Supreme Hatch Material. We moisten the SHM just a little to help keep the egg from drying out. On the top of the box we label each compartment with who’s eggs they are and the date they were pulled.
The picture on the left shows the incubation box for the crested geckos. It is kept in the room at room temperature. The picture on the right shows the incubator box with the leopard gecko eggs and some of the hatchlings. Checking the incubators for hatchings is one of my favorite things to do in the lizard room.

This has been a great learning experience for me and is interesting watching them grow to adult animals (that is for the few that we keep behind and don’t sell).
